Choose an individual place below, or explore the places on our map. Each place guide brings together our visit, photographs where available and practical details. The route guides show how we combined stops.

Mie · Kameyama, Taki and Kumano

Our September 2026 family road trip connected these places by car, with children aged seven and five. Pick a stop for its own guide, or use the complete route to plan several together.

Places to visit

  • Oyatsu Town — indoor play and a Baby Star snack workshop; roughly half a day for us.
  • VISON — bakery, coffee, food shops and a relaxed walk.
  • Takihara Shrine — our quiet, roughly 30-minute forest shrine visit, with access and visiting hours.
  • Matsumoto Pass — our family walk on the Kumano Kodo, including its steep opening and guided-trip arrangements.

Places to stay

  • Hotel Econo Kameyama — our value-focused overnight stay, breakfast and nearby dinner options.
  • Kumano Club — our Seiryu room, outdoor bath, meals and resort stay.

Connect the Mie places

Shizuoka · Hamamatsu and the Oigawa Railway

Choose a castle-and-park walk in Hamamatsu or a railway stop around the Oigawa line. These are separate areas to plan rather than a single walking route.

Places to visit

  • Hamamatsu Castle Park — a two-hour walking idea with the Japanese garden waterfall, Starbucks and Tatazumi Coffee.
  • Shin-Kanaya Station — reaching the right station and choosing the trains and tickets for an Oigawa Railway day.
  • Kawane Onsen footbath stop — our footbath experience, access from Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado Station and time between trains.

Connect the railway stops

Our Oigawa Railway outing with kids explains how we combined a regular train, the Kawane Onsen stop and a Thomas return, plus a separate car detour.
