Kawane Onsen Footbath: A Stop from Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado

By Torimonn · Firsthand footbath stop on August 14

Kawane Onsen was our break between two Oigawa Railway rides. We arrived at Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado Station (川根温泉笹間渡駅) on a regular train, used a footbath in the area and returned to Shin-Kanaya on Thomas. It works best as a stop with a chosen activity and a return train already in mind.

Where the station and footbath fit

The map marks the station. Kawane Onsen’s official access page (Japanese) puts the walk from Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado Station to the facility at about five minutes. Locate Kawane Onsen Fureai no Izumi in Google Maps.

Our footbath experience

The footbath water felt very hot to me. I would pause and check how it feels before settling in, particularly with children. That is my impression from the visit, rather than a measured temperature.

The facility’s official footbath and shop page (Japanese) says the footbath is free and that towels for drying your feet are sold at the neighboring shop. Bringing a small towel would make a short stop simpler. Check the facility’s current notices before visiting specifically for it.

We used the footbath, rather than the full hot-spring bath. The day-bathing facility could make this a longer break if that interests you; we did not use it or stay overnight on this outing.

How much time to leave

I did not find enough immediately around the station to fill a long, unplanned wait. I would choose the activity first, then work out whether it fits comfortably between the trains. A footbath stop and a full bath need different amounts of time.

  1. Choose the train you want to take back, and note its boarding station and departure time.
  2. Allow for the walk to the facility and back, as well as time to dry your feet and get ready to leave.
  3. Keep a margin before departure rather than using the whole gap for the activity.
  4. If you choose a longer bath or meal, check its opening arrangements separately from the train schedule.

Trains and onward travel

For rail travel, use Oigawa Railway’s main-line timetable and the Thomas calendar and ticket page for your actual date. Our regular-train outward journey and Thomas return were separate ticket purchases.

The railway currently lists Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado–Senzu as closed. Do not assume this stop connects by train all the way into the mountains; check any onward journey with the operator.

You can also plan a visit by car using the facility’s current road-access guidance. Our account here concerns the stop we made during the railway outing.

Combine it with the rest of the day

Our sequence was Shin-Kanaya Station → regular train → Kawane-Onsen-Sasamado → footbath → Thomas back to Shin-Kanaya. See the full railway outing for the order of the day and our train impressions.

Hamamatsu Castle Park is another Shizuoka option for a walking-and-coffee visit, with its own park guide. It is a separate outing to plan, not an assumed nearby railway stop.
